True Security

Happy Sunday. I've read that one of the fads among billionaires and multi-millionaires is to build doomsday bunkers, highly fortified off-grid luxury sanctuaries built in remote locations to survive any global catastrophe. In Kansas, a wealthy man converted an Atlas ICBM missile silo into a luxury bunker. Units begin at 1.5 million.

Their website, survivalcondo.com, is an interesting read. On another front, I've read that the most wealthy among us are hoping to clone themselves to harness organs and spare parts so they can live indefinitely. Some have given orders that if they die that they're to be cryogenically frozen at 196° C so that one day they could be reanimated, brought back to life. The website alor.org alc is all about advancing the science of cryopreservation.

I imagine it's very costly. Today's verses from Proverbs talk about real security. Listen to these words from Proverbs 18 10 and 11. The name of the Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their strong city and their imagination it is like a high wall. Let me begin with the second part. Verse 11.

They accumulate wealth hoping to buy longevity. Jesus Jesus addressed this in Mark 8:36 when he asked this question. What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? The wealth of the rich is their strong city.

In their imagination, it is like a high wall. If you're a believer in Jesus, you know that your faith is the only real security. Proverbs 18:10 is all about that. The name of the Lord is a strong tower.

The righteous run into it and are safe. This verse reminds me of Romans 10:13. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. The only true security that we can have is in Christ.

Believers have a genuine refuge while the worldly have an imaginary one. King David, who was very rich by the way, put his trust in God, not in his wealth. He began Psalm 18 this way. He said, "I love you, Lord.

You are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior. My God is my rock in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety."

David began Psalm 61 this way. Oh God, listen to my cry. Hear my prayer. From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed.

Lead me to the towering rock of safety. For you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings. David had a life fraught with danger in tough times.

As a young shepherd boy, he fought bears and lions and his brothers. Later on, he gained great fame by killing the giant Goliath. After he was anointed to be king, yet before he became king, David was hunted like a wild animal by Saul. He had a tough existence for a long time.

He relied on his faith to retain his sanity and to feel secure even in tough times. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are safe. I do not know what you are going through today.

I do know that you need not fear. You are secure if you are a Christ follower no matter what. Today I'll end with the first part of Psalm 91. Scholars are not sure, however, uh who wrote this.

Many think it was from the writings of Moses. If it's were if it was, he too had a life filled with challenges. Psalms 91 begins this way. I love it.

Those who live in the shelter of the most high will find rest in the shadow of the almighty. This I declare about the Lord. He alone is my refuge, my place of safety. He is my God and I trust him.

I agree with David and Moses and Solomon. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are safe. Pray with me.

Lord, help us to have that peace that passes understanding. Help us to know that we are safe and secure in your arms, in your hand, in your presence. Forgive us if we forget that, if we fear, if we fret, if we freak out, and help us to trust you always. Thank you for being there for us, our strong tower.
